It’s been kinda amazing making a dance film — I didn’t expect that. And to do it the old fashioned way, through a storyboard: drawing out each image of each clip on a piece of paper and moving the pieces of paper around until everything fits together. That part is spellbinding. And it's spellbinding because of the people who make up this film.
What they bring to this work, fully as themselves, in their bodies and their beings ...it's exquisite. And I get to see them, over and over again on my computer screen. Its been marvelous drawing their faces and bodies on my pieces of paper, matching up the edges of each of them to each other.
It is their generosity, their honesty, and their beauty that is The Sky Inside.
This moves me, very much.
So although it has taken me hours upon hours to make this film, I’ve enjoyed those hours — thoroughly — as I felt wholly in my body (it actually felt like I turned into an animal during my storyboard sessions: growling, grunting, sometimes stripping down to nothing, hunched over the table, eyes like a hawk on the images, with any interruption causing a vicious flapping of wings).
There's another aspect of this process that’s been hard though, and a few weeks back I ran into some unexpected difficulties, and I need to raise $1,531 to finish this film.
I need your help to do it.
Would you consider donating to this project so that I can finish the last leg of The Sky Inside, properly: fully clothed and quiet, waiting for flight.
I can't wait to share it with you: Sunday, April 28th and Monday, April 29th at The Boedecker Theater at 7pm. Link to ticketing coming soon!
Thanks my people — hugely.
